More people are visiting the intranet but spending very little time there

This is one of the key findings from SWOOP Analytics' 2025 SharePoint Intranet Benchmarking Report.

If more people are visiting the intranet, but staying for a short amount of time, what does that mean for internal communicators? It means it's vital that information is easy to access, it's up to date and it's accurate.

In our report, we show you how to do so, and we address other findings including:

  • How often people visit the intranet
  • How much time employees spend visiting and reading the intranet
  • What day, and time of day, are people visiting the intranet?
  • Who is reading the intranet?
  • How are people accessing the intranet?
  • How many news intranet articles people read each week
  • The optimal length of an intranet news article
  • When does intranet news become old news?
  • How to get your intranet AI ready

If you're involved in managing an intranet, our FREE benchmarking report is a must-read!

    CASE STUDY:
Medibank - Creating the healthiest workplace in Australia by engaging employees

When Australian health insurer Medibank was moving to a brand new office, right from the go-get employees were involved in decision making through posts, polls and storytelling on Viva Engage.

The goal was to create Australia's healthiest workplace.

The two-year communication and change project to involve employees in the move was primarily done via Viva Engage, using a multi-channel communications approach which also included SharePoint intranet.

SWOOP Analytics identified this Viva Engage success story when Medibank ranked No.1 globally across every organisation analysed in SWOOP Analytics’ 2024/25 benchmarking study.

When you read Medibank’s story about this communication and change project, you’ll see how asking questions of, and listening to, employees is at the heart of everything Medibank does.
